Piracy vs Bank Robbery
Bank robbery doesn't happen as often. Simply because 1st banks don't have a lot of money in them anymore and secondly the risk of getting caught is very good with all the security systems in place.

Copyright infringement does happen all the time done by the majority of the population. The internet just highlights this fact as you can more easily see it happening. This occurs simply because the risk of getting caught is very low. In many cases there is absolutely no risk of getting caught.

I think copyright laws are in effective and have lost sight of the spirit of what the law was meant to do.

Also average person can not lobby government, we don't have that kind of cash available to buy laws. So what's a person to do?

I truly think that any time a industry that makes money off a specific law being in place as is makes it nearly impossible to change that law. The economic reprecussions could be devestating and that can be political suicide.
