Genie Effect defined
The 'effect' of showing a label and magnifying an icon that you
mention are NOT the same as the Genie Effect. The link in the
article about patent protection goes to an AppleInsider page
showing what the effect really is. Here is the link:

The Genie Effect takes an application or Finder window and
shrinks it as it is moved to the Dock.

I'd take your bet, Apple has a good interface extra that I haven't
seen on any other OS.
