... makes the effort to prevent it from becoming a commodity. The examples discussed before include Microsoft's changes to the definition of an operating system, and the way that Office is morphing into far more than a simple office suite for businesses.
If you can distinguish a brand by its functions then you can't say the category has become a commodity. Web-hosting is only arguably a commodity, and that can easily be changed.
