One thing the story of electricity proves is the value of patents. Tesla invented ac and when he sold his patents to Westinghouse, he used the money to improve his lab.

By the way, Tesla and not Marconi received credit for radio as a result of a Supreme Court decision in the 1940's.


But what the story does not prove is IT's need for general computing capacity.

The equivalent would be making appliances run at the power station and somehow selling their services at the purchaser's home. If I want my bread toasted, I can do it in my kitchen; I want do it though a connection to my neighbor's toaster.

There's a difference between fuel and function. Seems sophistry to try to pretend they're the same.
