if the numbers are correct in the proportion of iPods vs. other portable media players that Apple would be wise to license their technology to other music portals, since we're talking MS Windows-like market share. Apple has, in the past, gotten away with closing out competition with their technology because it never really reached monopoly levels, however that may have to change.
But it's not like Apple would not profit from licensing their technology, so they won't come out losers in this, that's for sure.
But when you say "You can't make software that decrypts WMA files without breaking laws in the US (DMCA)." does that mean you can't do it even WITH a license from MS? Not that I'm saying Apple should, but why couldn't Yahoo get a license to decrypt WMA so they can sell it as an iPod firmware update? Is that because WMA requires cooperating hardware to do so, or because Yahoo does not ahve the license to do so, or because it is illegal no matter which route they take?
P.S. This is why I prefer CDs. I rarely buy singles anyway. - Posted by: Michael Kelly Posted on: 03/08/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
