It's my impression that MS has not pursued the market as vigorously since Apple built Windows-compatability into the iTunes Music Store. They were all hot and bothered to get into the market before then, but their campaign seems to have cooled for the moment.

Perhaps they are happy to siphon off some cash for being the gateway to iTMS (helping them maintain the Windows monopoly) -- all the while allowing others to attack iTMS with WMA.
