Not so clear cut
---iPods - Are pretty much limited to your CD collection and the iTunes music store---

Nope, there are lots of places where you can legally purchase (or download for free) mp3 files that work fine on the iPod. Magnatune for one example, allofmp3.com for another.

---WMA-enabled devices - Work with your CD collection, and pretty much every online music store except iTunes---

And if you aren't using Internet Explorer on a Windows Machine, you can not access any of these stores. If you aren't using WMP on a Windows machine, you can not play any of the files from any of these stores.

---In other words, if you have an iPod and want to buy music online, if it's not on ITMS, you're pretty much screwed---

Not true. See above, and throw in tons and tons of artists who sell/give away downloads from their own websites, like http://www.tmbg.com
