It's ALL bad...
Until there is a COMMON DRM and full format compatibility out there and a COMMON rights clearing-house for users, this is ALL BAD for consumers.

Let's say you buy $1000 worth of music from a download service. Then that service goes bankrupt or 'gets out of the business' ?

How do you authorize to play the music that you paid your hard-earned money for?

The Government sure isn't jumping up to protect the rights of consumers. Their Radar is on short-sweep right now (Iraq) and consumer/country business is on the back burner.

It's gonna happen, and the fallout is going to be immense.

Who do I think will bail first? Microsoft. They have a habit of bailing on consumers without consumer regard when they don't see the profit numbers they expect (I reference you to UltimateTV, SideWinder Devices, Networking Hardware, etc...)

With all that said I have about $200 invested iTunes downloads, and as soon as I 'filled' out my collection with the singles I wanted, I stopped purchasing and immediately burned 3 copies of each in standard format just in case.

I like iTunes but my fears remain the same with them.
