no more swiping credit card
I was just on vacation in Hong Kong, and they have something very similar to this. They have cards called Octopus Cards, and these cards are basically prepaid cards used for just about everything, i.e. Mass Transit (Subway, Bus), Vending Machines, Fast Food. They only require a wave over an indicated pad, and it withdraws money from the card's value. It's a good technology that I wouldn't mind seeing here in the US.
