I can't agree with google on this one
At the bottom of this page you'll find, "Copyright ?2005 CNET Networks, Inc. All Rights Reserved."

If source code, be it C++ code or HTML code has a copyright, then I need the owner's permission to modify it and redistribute it. In essence, Google will be reading the source, making it's own special changes, and restributing it to the consumer. This seems like a fairly blatant copyright violation to me.

We depend on Google to provide an unbiased search result based on a quantitative page ranking. Advertisers are clearly marked. I go to google because I feel it is the least biased. Page "hijacking" will harm Google's credibility.

When I develop a web page, I expect it to be displayed as I created it - no extra tags, no pop-up adds based on my content, no style changes. "Smart Tags" infringes on the right of the developer to produce content. What will be next? If I place a link to Average Joes book store, will google change it to Amazon?
