OASIS OpenDoc Uses XForms
The OASIS OpenDocument XML file format specification fully embraced XForms, SVG and SMiL in September of 2004. Although the March 2004 phase II objectives of the technical committee specifically identified these open XML technologies for inclusion in the OpenDoc effort, the September hustle was in direct response to requests from the European Union TAC/IDA task force.

By October of 2004 XForms functionality was included in the OpenOffice.org version 2.0 beta line. The March release of OOo 2.0 will be fully enabled to produce XForms, including graphical interface for building XForms and binding objects, web services, data, scripting objects, and streaming media to XForms objects.

The OASIS OpenDoc specification provides an XForms compliant file format. And both OpenOffice.org v2, and the upcoming release of KOffice will provide a graphical user interface for cross platform desktop productivity environments.

These efforts are further complimented by the Mozilla-Novell-IBM browser based XForms task force. Both Novell Office and IBM's WorkPlace are built from OpenOffice.org components, and therefore compliant with the OASIS OpenDocument XML file format specification ? which OBTW shatters on a grand scale the minimalist approach taken by the recently formed W3C Compound Document Committee. The OASIS OpenDocument TC has forwarded to the W3C Compound Doc group the most recent versions of our specification with the offer to set up a liaison based relationship. The same kind of relationship we maintain with the W3C XForms group as well as other critical Open XML Technology efforts.

The XForms effort is alive and well, thank you.

Hope this helps,

~ge~
