This is a very, very, important battle for Microsoft.
If they can create confusion and make sure we don't get a good standard here, then they will win. When Longhorn comes around, then people will start using the proprietary technology because it is what's available that works. They have not been ignoring the browser by accident, it is a well thought out strategy. They want the browser to be old tired technology, so that people will migrate to the dazling technology in Longhorn, without realizing that it is proprietary. But, that said, we see what happened to Pasport, it is the Amazon's of the world that Microsoft has to convince, and I am not sure they want to let Microsoft control things.
