250 million reasons he might be (partially) right
Apple's enormously popular iTMS does not prove that DRM is
useless; Apple's FairPlay IS DRM technology. With respect to
DRM, Apple's 250M sold songs prove that DRM can be used
successfully without alienating end users. FairPlay lets you buy
songs, burn them on CDs, copy them on as many iPods as you
want. It OLY limits number of computers it can be copied to.
When DRM is this liberal, people don't object it.

What happens to my 5,000-song collection from Napster that I
painstakingly downloaded, once Napster goes out of busines,
five years down the road (hypothetically; this could as well be 20
years down the road; point remains)? My music is useless! On
the other hand, I still have CDs from 20 years ago and they still
play. Same with iTunes songs - they'll continue to play as long
as there's hardware that will play them. DRM is relevant and
useful, as long as it makes sense.
