>>> I guess this means that Apple is an evil monopolist that wants to control everything in your life and doesn't want to let you play your music where you want, when you want, right? >>>
No, that would still be MS and it's WMA music "allies" (soon to be victims?).
As a Mac user, I'm shut out of the MS-backed music sites, not that it's any great loss, but where is my "choice" this suit supposedly addresses? Windows users have the option and choice as Apple has at least Windows covered re iTunesMS and the iPod.
Henry Ford's "You can have any colour you want, as long as it's black."?
Bill Gates' "You can have any music choice you want, as long as it's MS owned, backed and/or controlled."?
Artcile... "... their respective music download sites have been deceitful and have forced consumers to buy products because they are tied together ..."
Where's the deceit and how is anyone being forced (to buy or use anything)?
Maybe it means some people can't read what the requirements are and any possible limitations or restrictions (with iTunesMS, AAC music format and the iPod). But has been mentioned numerous times, the music files can be "revised" to work elsewhere, you can move your music to various devices/formats (eg, burn to CD, play on a PC, etc... far less restrictive than many of the WMA alternatives), and the iPod itself plays more than just AAC.
Article... "... Despite railing against Microsoft's similar locked-down stance on interoperability during its compatibility testing and indicating that the company was in its legal sights, UFC-Que Choisir has not filed suit against the Redmond, Wash.-based software behemoth. ... "
As the story mentions, of the 3 major "DRM companies" (Apple, Sony and MS), MS is conspicuously absent from the suit.
Apple hasn't been formally convicted of a major federal offense like some other entity we know... it's just been unfairly centered out here.
Kind of suspicious isn't it?
>>> mmm, something tells me that certain posters are going to be conspicuously absent from this story! >>>
Maybe not
