Gotta remember that BT is more distrubuted FTP than P2P
Supreme speed and anti-leech. But lack of searching, lack of convenient perma-sharing, and realtime and per-file traffic copping (the very powerful anti-leech feature) is very harmful to availability, which makes BTs fileswapping utility (when used as P2P as opposed to distrbuted FTP as it is designed to be) limited to piracy of mainstream goods with large (>100mb) file sizes.

I like BitTorrent going in the coglomerate P2P programs but BitTorrent isn't a real P2P protocol.

I am very in support of ratios in the official emule client and tougher ratio in the MorphXT client but client-side ratios are easy to hack and cheat, especialy in open source software. Maybe a global ratio information exchange can be built into the ED2k, source exchange, or KAD (Overnet for EdonkeyHybrid) protocals (AICH - sa12 checksums is only in the emule-only source exchange protocol).
