I don't want to Godwin this thread....: ...but every time I go to the airport, I'm reminded of the movie "The Great Escape" where the escaped soldiers get caught and the bad guys (you know who) demand to see their papers. Or perhaps it's more like oppressive Communist Soviet Union.

---The authorities have ALWAYS had the responsibility to "check your ID", the vagrancy laws are nothing new---

What do vagrancy laws have to do with having to show your papers to get on an airplane? I'm not being a vagrant, I'm just traveling. Why do I have to identify myself to some minimum wage employee of a private security firm or an airline? What good does having to show your ID to get on an airplane do?
