That is actually worse. Here in America there STILL has to be a warrant issued by a judge. The warrant may be issued and kept secret from the accused, but it still has to go through the court. Even before the patriot act, the government had the ability to "hold" people without charging them for an extended period, but thanks to the patriot act that ability has been extended to non-citizens and "visitors" to this country.

Don't get me wrong voska, I have visited Canada, it seemed very nice, but I didn't lose anything there.

Our checks and balances are still intact, some may be a little more paranoid about that than others, but people are often scared of what they don't understand. And when you have talking heads, who are pretending to be journalists, that are telling people what to think, the fear only gets worse.

Of course there may be abuses and mistakes, but I don't think they are particular to any country or government or law.
