But remember, just because they aren't being paid directly by Mozilla to work on it, that doesn't mean they aren't getting paid to work on it.

Nokia could just as easily had their in-house programmers work on minimo rather than pay Mozilla to do it. In fact that is exactly how many other open source projects get done, not through direct funding, but having it done in-house then released to the public.

You'll notice a lot of Intel folk work on Linux. That's an indirect way of both helping the project out and making sure Intel's hardware works well on it. So they wind up helping Linux, helping Intel the company themselves, and the programer gets paid.
