Google does not sell the actual search results, adds are clearly marked
They are religious about not letting anybody buy the actual search results. You type in Microsoft, the most relavent Microsoft results will be at the top. Sure, Oracle could buy the adds that are along the side clearly marked as sponsored links.

If Google ever did what you are talking about, they would lose customers fast. There are alternatives.

And, grocery stores have been doing this kind of thing for a long time. Pepsi can pay them to print a Pepsi coupon on the back of the reciet when you buy a 6-pack of Coke.
