Let's turn this on it's head. Let's suppose Oracle buys the word "Microsoft". Now every search that may have the word "Microsoft" in it gets lots of Oracle results - and all the side banner ads are Oracle.
Every time someone searches for SQL Server, there are 10 links to various Oracle products. Say Oracle start offering Open Office - and for every search for Microsoft Office, there are 10, 20 or 30 links to "free" Open Office. Search for "Windows"? The top 50 results are all for Oracle's Linux.
Suppose this becomes common amongst search engines and Oracle buys the Microsoft keyword at all of them. Suppose they also buy access to their own words to stop similar tactics...
I'm thinking Google may get very rich selling companies their own trademarked words.
