I don't know the details of the case, but maybe when a trademark holder comes in saying they own "meridien" and you are not allowed to advertising against it, perhaps Google should remind them they own "meridien" only in connection with hotels and ceade the minor keyphrase "meridien hotels" to them instead. It points up the limited scope that a trademark has in reality.

Also when I searched for "meridien" I got mostly meridien hotel sites, isn't it better when you have a group like that to show the main site as a high ranking item and use the rest of the search results for other 'meridiens'? I bet that weighed in the judges mind too, that the page had mostly hotel listings on it.
