3rd party cookies are correctly identified as spy-ware, and should be illegal. All authentication and/or e-commerce applications need to work are direct cookies from the site you have connected to. Anything from further afield is either a criminal trying to steal your data or a marketeer (another type of criminal) trying to profile you.
In my not-so humble opinion, the law doesn't go far enough.
