Fansubs are responsible for the US Anime market..
Do they realize this? How do you think Anime became popular in the US? There was no way to see it except via Fansubs picked up for high prices at Sci-fi conventions. Thus some companies saw the potential and created commercial subbing/dubbing companies to license Anime for the US. This not only benefits US companies but the Japanese company as they get steady new streams of income from licensing.

This is a true to life no BS case where piracy has helped business. I have purchased every US legally released Anime that I saw fansubs of that was worth watching.
