I would agree wholeheartedly if this was just a simple case of copy and share.

But - these fan sites have actually increased the value of the product by providing translation, and have also provided marketing of the type that is only dreamed about by most other products.

And that the sites make a good faith attempt to remove content that is finally offered for sale - boy this really makes this a huge grey area.

If not for dedicated fans of some product that is not available in an area - desire for a product is never generated except for the use of advertising. And these media houses have been getting a lot of free advertising for the product. This is a tough one to come down solid on either side of the issue.

As an aside, I think that the real issue is price break of the lesser titles - lets face it - if the price of a less than steller title was brought more in line to the perceived value of the buyer, more product would be sold. For example - who in their right mind would pay $30 or more for Plan Nine from Outer Space? Keep it around $10 tho, and folks will get it for kicks and to have around tho.
