Ya don't say
Well, you might try READING what was said, rather than throwing the same old kneejerk reaction out. As I *specifically* stated, I (and many others) can and DO pay the high prices associated with anime. This is NOT a case of people stealing the content. The vast majority of anime fans do the same. However, I will NOT pay the high price for something that is not worth it, which is exactly what is causing the described symptoms (the good stuff sell, the crap doesn't). Thus, I as a consumer am 'providing feedback on that pricing by buying it or not buying it', as you so quaintly put. The problem here is that the studios are seeing that if people know something is crap, THEY DON'T BUY IT...hmmm... The fansubs are only made when something is NOT being released here, and is pulled almost all the time when the product shows up for sale in the US.

So let's see. If it's good, it sells. If it's crap, it doesn't. Amazing how that works. And since it generally takes up to years for an anime to make it from Japan to the US (although as the market has been growing, that has been speeding up with some titles), the only way for a fan here to check out a new anime is through a fansub. Since that leads to new sales of the product when it is released here that would NOT have otherwise occurred, I fail to see the problem. When it comes down to it, no one disputes that the studios have a right to restrict fansubs, the entire point was that the fans buy the product DESPITE the ridiculously high prices, and by instituting draconian measures against the same people who are willing to pay those high prices, they are engaging in a dangerous practice which could backfire on them quite dramatically. If you cannot understand that, then there's no point in even discussing further.
