Overpriced
--What they're actually saying is: "We can't overcharge for the mediocre DVDs like we used to." Anyone who's interested in anime like my daughter is can tell you that most of the DVDs are wildly overpriced when/if they do come to America. This is just another aspect of the overpriced media war.--

That is exactly right. While most 'movie' DVDs run $10-20, for most anime series the fans are paying $19.95 to $40 per DVD. Now, even that's not too bad, but dropping $30 for a DVD that has 3 30 minute episodes, and virtually NO extra features is, in my opinion, wildly overpriced. (As a matter of fact, I bought two titles yesterday in that exact situation. $29.95 per DVD, 3 30 minute episodes.)

At the same time, I have now spent well over a grand on collecting anime, and it all started as a result of downloading fansubs. I've bought quite a few titles that I did not know anything about, based on the cover/description, and found out how much they sucked when it was too late. They say that the 'mid-range' titles aren't being bought, but perhaps that's the BAD anime (and there's a lot of it).

I understand about the distributed fansubs, but as the story said, the vast majority of fansubs ARE yanked when they are released here. This is a tightrope those studios will need to walk, because as someone who's spent alot of money on their products, if they make it so I have to guess whether a title is any good or not, I will start spending less and less. I'm willing to pay the high price for a good anime that I'll watch again, but I won't pay that much (any more) for a crappy one, period.
