Wait a minute...
Unless you are talking specifically about Firefox or more generally about GPL products, OSS is more mature (BSD?) than the majority of commercial apps out there. Unix (AT&T's) techniqually started out as OSS, almost as free as BSD.

Assuming you are talking about GPL and similar stuff, I don't see this happening at all. Sure, money is attractive, but it is rarely a driving force for these people. It is usually seen as an added benefit.

These aren't corporations who HAVE to gain profit for their masters (shareholders). These are little collections of people from all over that usually come together to make a product and improve on it cause they like to.

And choice will always be there, it is one of the core elements of the GPL. You don't like the current choices, start your own, find someone who will, or chances are there are many others who hold your opinion so join them.

There will be projects that are rushing things and doing it for the money, but I am sure those will be the minority. The way I see it, such projects will be killed off by the economics of OSS.
