Yes, and it will most likely be overtaken by an OSS project that has taken its time. The rushed project will not be polished and up to peoples' expectations. Once the better version sees the light of day, people will jump ship from the rushed project and essentially kill it off through lack of demand. And this is where the true beauty of OSS comes into play: if a project is not where people would like it to be a fork can be created and it can continue on from there. With Microsoft, you get the rushed beta rammed down your throat and there is nothing you can do about it (except not use it of course). Proprietary software can't be forked, so consumers have no say over its fate (other than their purchasing decisions in the market).

But again, the ability to branch off will pre-empt this from doing any real damage. Take Red Hat: many have become frustrated with their way of going about things, but thanks to the GPL, you can just go with another distro and forget all about them, and their greed will have no real effect on OSS. Just beautiful..
