Okay.. I'm all for "tax the rich... feed the poor... til there are no rich no more..."

But.

Say we did set bill gates SS tax at 15% (which is more complicated (see below). If we did, wouldn't we have to pay him benefits comminserate with the amount we taxed him? I mean, for god's sake- if you are going to tax him 5 billion dollars for retirement, I'd expect to pay him matching benefits (4-5 billion spread out over age 67 to the average death rate of about 80). Otherwise, we are basically just robbing the man of billions of dollars in return for nothing.

Yes the SS tax is capped at about 87k. I am don't earn enough to be capped. But BENEFITS are capped too. So it's fair.

* Bill gates income. MOST of bill gates income is not salary so it wouldn't be eligible for SS tax anyway. You don't pay SS tax on dividend or interest income or capital gains.
