Locks do only keep honest people honest
The dishonest will just bypass the locks while honest people are locked out of doing what is legal.

For example. I have a CD that I can't play anywhere but in my car. My CD/DVD player and computer will not play it. Why is that CD like that? To stop me from distributing it on P2P. Well the music on P2P right now, that's how I play it on my computer. I was in my opinion forced to download the songs so I could listen to the music.

The locks didn't keep the criminals out they kept me out of something I own, bought and paid for.
