Bit-Crunch is right.

Playing song where others can hear is infringement. I have a friend who got nailed for that. He worked in a shop as clerk and played his music on portable CD player while he worked. One day the shop got a letter telling them to stop this practice of playing music where the customers might hear it.

Piracy is all about price. You even go as far to make a point supporting this. When content so easily copied and the price to buy the content too high or over priced it will be pirated. For example a car is not easily copied so they can get away with charging outrageous amounts for it. People won't bother as it's just easier to pay the price. Now a songs is extremely easy to copy and if you do charge too much for the song it will be copied.

I see ways to stop this. Make it difficult to copy but whatever you DON'T make the product worth less by putting restrictive DRM on it. That just pushes people to copying. Better to make a product that offers more such make it higher quality which in turn make it harder to copy and retain the quality. Add bonuses. Better liner notes, discounts, and such. I think some of the studios have the right idea. Giving me a chance to win an X-box for buying a DVD, giving me a discounts on buying other DVDs from the same studio, giving me access to online content and promotion, a photo album of stills from the movie. All these make it harder to copy the product in manner that gets all that is with copy you pay for. That's smart business.

Personally I don't think this has anything to do people getting music or movies from free. There is some other agenda. If this were the real problem the RIAA/MPAA would have just lobbied for manditory bandwidth caps enforced by law. That would solve the problem instantly. Would you share a 10 GBs of content knowing it cost $400+ a month to do so? Now why has the RIAA/MPAA pushed for this?
