How is each peer suppose to block you? It's not the server that controls you. You connect to peers only. THe server connection is for the ads only (and for news/info/updates).

Again, I don't pretend to know everything about all P2P systems but I disagree with this. The server connection in the systems that I've used are there to tell you what peers exist and what they have to share. At minimum, when you start up your P2P client, you have to connect to SOMETHING. If that SOMETHING is private, it isn't likely to be noticed by the MPAA/RIAA but it also isn't likely to be involved in large scale "infringing". If that SOMETHING is public and advertised, you will be noticed. If that SOMETHING is primarily there to give you access to "infringed" material, the owner of that SOMETHING should be sued, end of story.

The technology to make it difficult to share "infringed" material probably isn't here yet. The point of my post is that EVERYBODY wins (especially non-infringing P2P sites) when that technology is created. Let's get to work!

What can you do?
Answer: Accept that p2p is here to stay, you are better to make peanuts than get nothing for your work.
I don't buy this. B&Es, muggings, rape, and murders are here to stay but I'm all for technologies that make it more difficult for criminals to perform those acts. The idea here is NOT to eliminate infringing, that will never happen. The idea is to make it more difficult and to punish those that are caught. I don't understand how you can be against that?

I don't buy this either. The main reason for infringement is that it is incredibly easy to get away with it. I agree that pricing has something to do with it but I personally don't see it as being the main reason. If pricing was the main reason, people would have no problems going into a store and stealing the CD/DVD but how many infringers would have the guts to do that? Not many. They infringe because they know they won't get caught. I guess that makes them cowards.

But I quite agree with this rule "It can only be infringement is someone profits from another persons work"
Otherwise any copying and playing (even singing someone else tune) would be infringement. So whisting your favorite tune or playing your car stereo would be public display of a work ( an infringement)
Not at all true. Infringing happens when you take away my ability to profit from material that I have copyrighted. Your profit (or lack thereof) is coincidental. Me singing someone else's tune in my shower or playing my car stereo is not likely to reduce Metallica's ability to profit from their songs. Well, I guess it might depending on how bad a singer you are.

Besides, there are restrictions on public displays of work for "free". Bars are not allowed to display pay-per-view events without paying the cable company extra for that ability. Even if the bar doesn't charge anything extra (and therefore doesn't profit directly from the display), they reduce the cable company's ability to sell that pay-per-view event to customers. Why would I pay $40 for a fight when I can go to the bar and watch it for free? Your definition of "infringing" might require someone to make a profit from it but the courts disagree. Wasn't that the basis of the whole "theft" vs "infringement" argument?
