Share it yes but it's very time consuming
It can take months for a few rotten apples to ripp a DVD, compress it, put on P2P, and have it copied enough times to actually make available on wide basis.

The way P2P works if only 1 person has it chances are you aren't going to be able to get it. Where P2P gets fed is via the guys downloading from FTP servers then placing those files in their P2P share folder.

Now it could still be a problem but it's minimized. So combine that with the fact that movies are a theatre experience that can't be downloaded and if they lowered DVD prices the whole problem of internet piracy would go away.

Combine this with bandwidth caps, I have 1 GB a month upload limit and it costs me $10 for another GB. I'm not going to be sharing anything. Why should I pay so some freeloader can get a movie with out paying.

So really the whole P2P thing is easily solved. Of course that assumes that the problem was the actually trading of copyright protected material without authorization. But that's not how politics works. In politics you make up problems where you hope to force through solutions that suit an entirely differnt agenda. I deal with this type of thing daily.

I get users claiming they need media player access on the net for business reasons. Then I solve the problem allowing access to the specific sites they specified in thier complaint. Of course the real reason for the complaint was internet radio but that's not allowed due to bandwidth costs.

I can only speculate at what the MPAA real reason for this witch hunt is and the RIAA's reason is blatantly obvious. Also not that softare people are quiet on this issue. The RIAA has something to lose to P2P, that being the current business model as middlemen. Not sure what the MPAA has to lose but maybe they fear something. But then the MPAA has always been irrational as shown by the VCR debate back in the 80s, boston strangler?
