Another old Windbag weighs in.
Carson was tops. I remember living in a place called Abilene, Tx watching the Tonight Show and Carson did the whole show with a full unopened Budweiser bottle on the desk. Abilene at that time was a dry town and all the TV stations would block all beer ads. Carson got wind of that and left the bottle on the desk after Ed McMahon did one of the live commercials.

At the end of the show Carson pointed out why he did it ridiculing the town because smooth in the middle of the town was a place called Impact. 12 acres of the richest land in Texas that sold alcohol. Ya gotta love that type of genius.

Carson"s humor was top level, sophisticated, original and funny. Leno and Letterman aren't even pale reflections.
