While the C stands for copyright they've got that stupid section in there about encryption and circumvention that they love to stretch all out of proportion. (As evidenced by the, fortunately dismissed, case against the garage door opener maker and Lexmark's case against ink cartridge makers.)

CSS is purportedly supposed to protect the copyrighted material on the DVD so they could try to argue that point but would probably fail horribly.

The main thing is that the concept of something only working on an approved player is rather odious when you have the necessary hardware but happen not to be running the blessed OS.
