It's about ads.
Nothing to do with the search results. It is the side ads that google presents that may be relavent to your search. The "Sponsored Links" section.

Google's search results are almost completely automatic, very little human intervention takes place (the removal of that search string that virus was using to spread).

I side with Google here. A competitor bids to have his ad placed higher in the "Sponsored Links" section based on a search string. It is their site, let them do what they please as long as it isn't hurting the economy in general.
