MS sorely needs more revenue, subscriptions provides a model to extract revenue consistently. It seems to me that almost anyone who buys a XP box will have Outlook (plus the vile Outlook Express) bundled with MS Works or some form of Office. So I don't see home users taking this up in any significant numbers since they can get webmail from their ISPs already. Software Assurance subscriptions have not proved their value and people are defecting. So MS continues to refine the vision and wants us all to move to subscriptions since it is in their economic interest. However, it is not in my best interest nor my company's best interest to use this service so we won't. Basically, MS is asking people to pay again for what they already have. Some fools will. P.T. Barnum would be proud.
