Multiple points - pros/cons
1. Web based mail usually has good virus checking, but then a user should have an antivirus program on the computer to protect him/her from more than just ETD's (Email Trasmitted Diseases), so the virus safety issue couldn't be used for either.

2. To the best of my knowledge, web based mail doesn't automatically run a macro, exe, or other attachments, unlike some (not all) regular mail clients, so that I suppose is a plus for using web based mail.

3. Whichever mail client is being used, you still have the user-factor, and I think we all know Murphy's law, if a stupid user can do it, then he/she will.

So giving those three points (theres probably a lot more that I can't think of at this time), a conclusion to which mail client is safer, Web based vs. regular mail client, cannot be decided. Which leaves me back at my original question, how is safer defined?
