Can technology close journalism's credibility gap?

I don't understand

Why should we assume that bloggers are any more or less credible than 'traditional' journalists? Blogging is just people keeping diaries; why should a new use of technology automatically render something credible?

Everyone, from Walter Kronkite down to me, is biased in some form. At least with the 'traditional' media, there was some measure of oversight; with bloggers, there is none. Anyone who automatically assumes that any blogger is 100% credible, without double- or triple-checking the source of the information, is displaying a woeful ignorance. The use of technology to disseminate information doesn't automatically render that information 'credible'.
