Simple Solution to XML Compression
It seems to me that a simple solution to making XML 'skinner' would be to develop a very simple compression algorithm. The compression algorithm would be simple to implement on all machines and OS'. Then all that is needed to to apply the compression before POSTing, and uncompress on the other side. There is nothing specific to XML about this solution; it would simply reduce traffic size. In fact it could be added to the XML interpeter to make it seamless.

Why would this not work?
