We have no argument with each other TIC
And it all hinges here.

"The changes they're talking about make the product vastly inferior to technology from 20+ years ago."

That is because HBO, the 2000 lb cable movie gorilla, has figured out that the consumer will buy seasons of programming on DVD. So they "give" us permission to record a program for use within 2 weeks. This precludes copying and increasing plastic sales (DVD). Look at the aount of TV shows out there that past seasons are now on DVD. Look at Jerry Seinfeld, how long has show been off the air. It is no surprise that hos show came out on DVD just in time for Christmas.

I do not want inferior junk either but you and I are out numbered by the "other" buying public. With that type of money out there to be made there is not a judge in the United States that will force the removal of safegaurds. So why should recording devices be any better than what they are becoming, junk?

It is all about free market, captalism and consumer demand. Contrary to what you might read here, consumer demand is in the pre-recorded market. It sucks I know.
