It will make a difference

---You take the basic consumer out there and change the way his old TiVo works when he ain't lookin, he will complain for about 5 minutes and move on.---

Two things make a big difference here:
1) TiVo is not a one time purchase. You have to pay for it monthly. If it stops working how you want it to work, most people will stop paying. Many systems (cable, satellite) give you a free TiVo box, so it's not like you're out money for the equipment.

2) The changes they're talking about make the product vastly inferior to technology from 20+ years ago. Do you really want a recorder that won't let you keep anything for more than a week? What good is that? If the changes are extreme enough, and so far, all indications are that they are, the technology will just die off until there's someone willing to be a maverick and make a product that the consumer wants, instead of what the entertainment cartel wants for you.
