The blog effect...
A recent number of studies have said there is a significant percentage of the population that have more on line friends than real friends. They build a social life via machine while tuning away from their real life.

I see blogging as being an extension of that in the vast majority of cases. I know one person that when invited to join our group after work said, "I'd like to but I have to get home and update my blog". No kidding, that was the exact words.

I mean come on, in most cases blogging is a vanity thing isn't it? It is meant to attract people to you on a more personal level than a web site or Usenet. It's a way to build a social group (friends or enemies) that can be held at arms length at will and it comes at the expense of real relationships.

Tis a strange world where people know other people all over the world but not their neighbors names. Strange indeed...
