It doesn't work
Boycotting just means they will blame piracy. Even if everyone stopped using P2P they'd still scream piracy and point to CD burners as the problem. Which in reality more music pirated via burning of CD than is done via trading of files online.

I have friends in the music business that can tell exactly why downloading occurs. It's price. The movie industry keeps raising DVD prices. Prices going up $1 every 4 months. In the past 2 1/2 years the prices on a new DVD have increased by $8. Now people keep buying at first then it dips off and they blame piracy. The piracy that was occuring before hasn't increased it just those movies that I don't really care enough to watch I stopped buying. Back when DVDs were $19.99 I buy a movie to watch with out really wanting but I'm not doing that for $28.99 and I'm not pirating it either. I just don't care if I don't see it.
