The laws of the republic...
are expected to be strong enough to prevent any such trodding on personal rights as envisioned by the RIAA and/or the MPAA. They must naturally regroup while they ponder what the future has in store.

People will pay for convenience and sensual satisfaction. They will pay for music that they want to listen to if they are not satisfied in any other way. One can simply listen to the radio or cable service more or less for free or for periodic advertising messages that pay for the content provided.

For somewhat more, either purchase of a CD or payment to an on-line retailer such as WalMart or Apple, one can obtain a physical copy of the tune quickly and painlessly that allows one to organize one's listening on a custom crafted CD or portable player.

At 88 cents a track, it is hardly worth the bother to poach tunes from the KaZaas and the like. The RIAA effort will go away in good time and more quickly once the first case reaches a trial date.
