Let me say it a bit differently.

My take:

Just because a large group of crooks tells you the world should be the way they see it, you don't have to follow them like sheep to the slaughter.

Following crooks and those with poor values is always easy and a good part of the population does exactly that. Just depends how much they think they can get away with. Some people have what it takes to be honest and admit that if you didn't pay for it and do not have the owners permission to take it, that makes the person a crook and pointing at the "other crooks" does nothing to alleviate your own lack of character or value system. For those people we make and enforce laws upon them.

Think about it. The vast majority of people understand murder is wrong, and yet our society has found it is necessary to make laws about it and enforce those laws. The fact is almost all laws and enforcement of those laws is done solely to deal with people that lack character or moral base to do it for themselves. Hence, tougher laws must be put into place, and better enforcement of those laws provided for. Thankfully Congress and the courts understand this, as they have for centuries, and are acting to help those that lack the honesty to help themselves.

Want a neat little test? If you read the above and it comes off as someone "preaching at you", or that I am trying to sound "holier than thou" it just may be that is because it casts you in an unfavorable light and you don't really disagree with what is said, you just don't like having it said or said to you...
