Nice opinion piece on the inquirer! I found it interesting how he spent the first half of his article explaining how slow searching was without indexing, then he made fun of Microsoft for how easy it was to turn on indexing. So does Microsoft suck because indexing isn't on by default (shouldn't services be off by default?), or because it is too easy to turn on?
Then he goes on to make fun of Microsoft for how cryptic the indexing service is if you use it through the standard search form but, in the next breath, make fun of Microsoft for putting a nice front end on it. So which is it, does Microsoft suck because indexing access is too cryptic, or not cryptic enough?
In the end, even your little opinion piece author admits that Microsoft, with Indexing service turned on, instantly returned hits and has been able to since Windows 2000 (4 years ago). Are you telling me that Google had desktop searching available since 1999?
