You have an odd definition of hypocrisy
Summarizing your post--I point out a lack of comprehensive data (or even any links) backing your point. Then I say that if there's a legit use for a product, it should be allowed. You then say this makes me a hypocrite. I'm not sure how that follows, please elaborate.

---You say that when I tell you that there have been people caught using AutoCAD illegally you call it anecdotal.---

Again, show me the evidence, and I'll be happy to analyze it. Your telling me a story does not stand up in court. Furthermore, I'll be happy to stipulate that people do indeed swap songs and software on these networks. I never disputed that. What I dispute is that massive financial damage is being done to music and software companies due to filesharing. I've yet to see a company go under strictly because of people sharing their songs or programs. Like I asked above, show me some evidence and I'll be happy to look at it with an open mind.

---But then you turn around and say that if P2P has one legitimate use against hundreds (thousands?) of illegal down loads then it is above reproach and nothing should be done----

Absolutely not. I never said that. I said if p2p has a legitimate use, it should be a legal product. I didn't say that "nothing should be done." I'm fine with the RIAA suing copyright infringers. That's their right under the law (although I don't think it's a good business strategy, nor do I think the US government should be doing their suing for them). People with copyrights need to act to protect them. It's not up to Sharman to do their work for them.

There are also lots of other measures that can be put in place. AutoCad could use a registration required system for their software. It may be unpopular, but it would stop unauthorized copies from being used. Lots of things could be done.
