Now you are trying to base right and wrong on dollars?
"What good would this do? If you knew the exact number and names of every file being illegally shared, how would this prove a financial loss by the RIAA?"

Hmm so right and wrong, legal and illegal all depends on dollars? Not in my book.

Second, everyone keeps talking about RIAA as if they are the only ones suffering infringement and that simply isn't true. A great example is software, specifically I'll use AutoCad as an example.

There have been literally hundreds of cases where BSA has tracked the copyright infringers down and those people indeed needed and paid for the software when confronted. So to this I can say yes, they would have bought it and that represents real lost dollars to AutoDesk.

Tic, I have said it before, I am no fan of RIAA, but right and wrong has made us bed fellows because they are just the beginning. (I suppose due to the fact the downloads are small.) As we both know a P2P can be used to share anything digital, your medical records, police records, financial records, anything some idiot thinks needs to "shared" with the world.

Having some metric of what is being "shared" and how it is being shared can only add to the knowledge base required for all of us to make good decisions. I find it, strange there are so many people against getting to the truth...
