All good questions, maybe a few answers.
One can rightfully argue that a gun has many legal uses and be completely correct. Hunting, self protection, pleasure shooting, etc. In fact we can easily prove that guns have a very low usage (compared to the number of guns out there) for crimes.

But can we say the same of a P2P? The answer is no because the manufacture (Sharman) refuses to allow anyone take meaningful measure of how a P2P is used. Now being a show me sort of guy I find it strange that Sharman would fight showing the legitimate use of their product, unless of course they all ready know the answer and don't want you and I (or law makers) to know and deal from a position of informed knowledge.

It would appear that while Sharman *claims* there is no way to develop a metric, the real situation is they don't want anyone to know from fear it *might* be found that there is very little legal use of P2Ps and they are forced to change it to help limit infringement.

As I said, if they are serious about curbing infringement (as they are trying to claim with this move) then there is NO REASON to not build a metric, unless there is an ulterior motive that is... Sort of the same reasons they hide their ownership and any records about the company.....
